Raw Image, As Shot This image was taken without any in camera corrections. The automatic exposure has rendered an image devoid of detail in the background. Additionally, the foreground is very pale. If this image had been shot in JPG format, the camera’s processor would have averaged out the background and any detail would be non-recoverable. Using simple editing software, the foreground could be enhanced by improving the colour levels and contrast, and slight darkening to improve colour saturation.
Raw Image, Processed This is the same shot, however the exposure has been dropped about 2 stops in the background. All of the detail, now visible, was actually captured by the sensor. The colour levels were increased to produce a more pleasing final image.
