White Spruce This white spruce is part of the Alaska taiga. Taiga is the Russian word for forest and is the largest biome in the world. It stretches over Eurasia and North America. The taiga is located near the top of the world, just below the tundra biome. The winters in the taiga are very cold with only snowfall. The summers are warm, rainy, and humid. The taiga is also known as the boreal forest.

Alpine Creek Alpine Creek is on the north side of the ‘old’ Denali Highway at mile 68 between Cantwell and Paxson

Dawn This is an early morning shot of the Alaska Range. The sun is above the horizon, but still behind the mountains.

Ghost Forest This image is of the remains of trees whose roots were swamped with salt water and killed during the 1964 Earthquake. The location is approximately where the Seward Highway approaches Girdwood.

Hatcher Pass This image was taken near Hatcher Pass, Alaska. Hatcher Pass is a mountain pass through the southwest part of the Talkeetna Mountains close to Wasilla and Palmer.

On Matanuska While in Alaska, I had an opportunity to visit and climb the Matanuska Glacier. It is on the Glen Highway north east of Anchorage. The glacier is massive, but sadly retreating each year due to the rapid climate change.
This image of a climber is evocative of the serenity and solitude of the ice.

Salmon Boats This image was captured in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The salmon boats are at rest after a morning of fishing. It was a cold, damp misty day - and beautiful!
